Update

It's been a long time since I've updated. (HI BRAD!)

This is my 4th week of rest, prescribed by the podiatrist, for my hairline stress fracture on my tibia. I'm supposed to crosstrain and for a while, I was doing well by commuting on my bike. The past two weeks, I've been *LAZY*. Terrible, I know. I thought I was going to swim and stay in shape, but I failed! haha

I saw the podiatrist today and he said that he has not healed yet. He advised that I stay off for another two weeks at least, bummer. I have to get a bone scan and then he'll put me through some bone stimulation treatment. I don't know if I want to go through with all of that though.

Looks as though Disneyland Half Marathon is out for sure but there is no way I'm missing Nike!

I actually miss running. I never ever thought I would. The only running I get now is running to catch the train. Maybe that's why the fracture won't heal? lol

P.S. I got these shoes in black..they are so amazing!!!!

Fundraising

I am so so so close to meeting my fundraising goal! I am about $230 away. I'll be receiving $175 for serving beer with TNT at the KCAL kegger and then the rest will be cake! I really was freaked out when I first heard about the fundraising requirement but I'm really glad I stuck to this challenge. It confirms my belief that if I really want to do it, I can do it.

THANK YOU to my family, my coworkers and my friends..and even the few strangers who donated for all your support. (even though none of them reads this)

YAY!

Week xx (???)

Good morning!
I had to come post right away this morning after my run because I feel really great! I decided to start training with the full marathoners (in hopes of doing Nike full instead of half). Today we did 8 miles and I was so happy when I finished! A little hilly but we got them over with in the first half of our workout. I ran at a slower and easier pace today so my injuries weren't aggravated at all and I didn't feel as dead as I usually do. I'm still in disbelief..but 8 miles - get it me! and get it everyone else with Team In Training!

A huge huge THANK YOU to my company, MATT Construction Corporation, for donating $500! MATT is such a great company to work for and as you can see, they are very supportive of their employees. I'm so grateful to be with this company, not even just because of the donation, but because it was the best career choice I have made. "Great Leaders Great Builders Great People".

Also, another huge huge THANK YOU to my mom and my sister! I sent them a letter expecting $20 or something and my cute little mother called me last night saying she and my sister raised a couple hundred for me! She's so cute!

Although it doesn't reflect it on my website, with my mom's recent donation, I have about $400-500 left to raise. Thank you thank you thank you to everyone who has supported me along the way. I really didn't think I could raise more than $100 and look where I'm at now. I haven't even finished mailing out my donation letters and implemented my fundraising events yet.

Oh! And another THANK YOU to Marc Cherlin, Senior Estimator at MATT Construction (I'm telling you..great company) for donating $100!! I received a surprise check in the mail from Marc, and with his and BofA's generosity, that will be a $200 donation!

I'm so excited, thank you everyone!!
*Can you tell how happy I am right now?

SPECIAL SHOUT OUT!!

Here is a special and grateful shout out to my only two readers ;D

Brad with Plas-Tal (for all your miscellaneous metals needs) and my little sis Nikka!!

THANK YOU FOR THE SUPPORT!

Week ???

What week are we on?
Anyway, this past Saturday (June 19) we did a 60 min session, which ended up to be 5.85 miles for a fellow runner and me. New pain: the ankle! Running is going to be the death of me, I think. But I have to finish through with my two upcoming half marathons and maybe I'll feel brave to do a full...x_x <--death on race course at mile 3 face

I received my orthotic devices today and they are supposed to help the strain in my foot as well as the pain in my ankle. I hope they work!

Yesterday, I biked 3.25 miles to the train station, rode the train, then biked 5.18 miles to the jobsite..on my new Specialized hybrid bike, yay! A fellow biker was kind enough to tell me I secured my bike backwards on the train, oops. He was also kind enough to show me how to get out of the train station without going through the tunnel with the hoards of people (including the Lakers fans going to the parade! Go Lakers!). It was awesome, I came home satisfyingly tired. I'll try to keep that up as long as possible, even when running after work with my coworker before biking to the train station (we'll see about that). I would like to apologize to all those sitting near me on the train..sweaty, stinky (? I don't know if I smell after a workout hahah???)

I need to be more consistent with my training..running is back on tomorrow!

Thank you to my sorority sister, COURTNEY, for donating! We're both doing similar charities and we have decided to trade donations. ;)

8:09 pm...9 minutes past my bedtime!!

4th week

Today was my 3rd training session. We ran (slash walked) in Rancho Cucamonga around Windrows Park. I didn't know this area existed and it's a shame because it's so beautiful!

Today was a bad day for my foot. It was hurting again during the run and then after I pulled off some skin (OUCH!) when I pulled off the tape. I'm back to gimp walking again. Hopefully I recover by tomorrow so I can get back into my training schedule.

A special thank you to my project manager, Drew, for his generous donation! His donation will be matched by my previous employer which is awesome!!

First TNT Workout

We had our first TNT workout this past Saturday 5/22/10 in Redlands, CA. Very short, 30 min (I lost track?) run/walk around the neighborhood. Even though it hurts more to run on my foot than to walk on it, I definitely aggravated it.
After the workout, we went to Running Center for a shoe clinic. I didn't realize my shoes were so old and worn out until at least 3 people told me so. That's fine with me because that meant new shoes! yay! It took me at least an hour to finally settle on the shoes that I chose, Saucony, and I'm still hoping those are The One. I also went a little out of control and bought clothing and accessories. I promise, I'm done with buying new running gear!
I was supposed to head to my jobsite for a Tour of California viewing barbecue but my foot was bothering me too much so I decided to stay home and rest my foot. I heard I missed out on the fun though!

P.S. I bought a couple of carbohydrate/electrolyte "gels" and people were warning me that many people didn't like the consistency. I thought, "whatever, I eat all kinds of gross things anyway.." Well Monday morning I didn't have time to grab breakfast so I brought a Power Bar Gel with me in the car to eat on the way to work. I took one little gel-gulp and I literally gagged SO hard..it was DISGUSTING!! FYI! haha gross!!! Well, I refrigerated the other gels I bought, I hope it tastes better that way. (ew I still remember the grossness)

My foot is still hurting which means I'm still being made fun of at work :( haha! Hopefully it's better by the next training this Saturday otherwise I have an appointment with a podiatrist.

Until next time!

Week 1 Progress

I haven't been running this week even though the training schedule calls for runs every other day. I have a pain in my left foot and it hurts to walk on it so I figure I'll rest my foot. Hopefully the pain will be gone by our first training session this Saturday.

Since I haven't been running, I've been working hard on kicking off my fundraising campaign. My website is up: http://pages.teamintraining.org/ocie/nikesf10/tlitud. I've been working on flyers and other little marketing tools. This Saturday I'll have a chance to spread the word at an event that my company is hosting. Apparently the Tour of California is passing in front of the museum and several people at my company are cycling enthusiasts. This is great since Team In Training participates in cycling events as well.

THANK YOU TO MY FIRST THREE DONORS: ERIN, CAROLE AND CHINHNAM!

Santa Monica Classic 2010

I participated in my very first organized event this past Sunday on May 16, 2010. I ran (and walked..a litttle..) the Santa Monica Classic 2010 10K.

It felt amazing to look around at all my fellow runner/walkers. I couldn't believe I actually woke up, dressed myself, drove to Santa Monica, met up with 2 coworkers and started to run when everyone else did. This may sound conceited, but I am very proud for even showing up. Step 1!

My very deep thoughts during the race:
  • Mile 1 marker - "Wait are you sure we're not at mile 3?!"
  • Mile 2 thru Mile 4 markers - "The incline stops after mile 4, the incline stops after mile 4, the incline stops after mile 4...ahhhh"
  • Mile 5 marker - "Go all the way, no stopping until the finish line! If anything, you have to beat that girl in blue.."
  • Mile 6 marker - "Okay it'd be embarrassing to stop and walk with only .2 miles left. Ignore the ankle pain, the knee pain and the strange lower back pain I've never felt before!"
  • FINISH LINE - "fijaojidfoje0829341!@#!@#23!!@#!@389s0d9f"

All in all, I'm very grateful for the opportunity, support of my friends and coworkers and my willpower to run this event. I'm excited to work hard in training for the Disneyland Half Marathon in September and the Nike Women's Half Marathon in October.
